I’ve spent my life learning how to turn challenges into opportunities and I see my Dyslexia as my secret weapon!
Diagnosed with dyslexia at just six years old, I grew up in a time when understanding of learning differences was scarce. Back in 1984, most governments didn’t even recognise dyslexia. In fact, it was dismissed as a
“middle-class myth”, a belief that stuck around for far too long.
I was one of only a handful of kids and even fewer girls diagnosed in the early 80s, and while I was lucky to be in the UK where dyslexia was officially acknowledged in 1987,
real support was still years away. The system simply wasn’t designed for brains like mine and I had to learn to navigate it the hard way.
When I moved into full-time work after university, I faced a whole new set of challenges. The systems and strategies I’d developed as a child helped me hold my own, though I still hit speed bumps, like the time a new computer system completely threw me for weeks. Some workplaces valued my big-picture thinking, but most didn’t want creativity they wanted compliance. I’d get pulled up for going off-script, even when my results were better than the expected outcome.
That taught me fast: I wasn’t built to fit someone else’s mold. I needed the freedom to work in a way that made sense to me so, once my kids were born, I leaned into that fully and built my own business from the ground up. I’ve never looked back.
When my youngest daughter was diagnosed with dyslexia at age seven, I wasn’t worried. I genuinely believed the system must have come a long way since my own school days. I thought the support, the understanding, the
accommodations would all be there by now.
But they weren’t. Not really!
That’s when it hit me. We were still miles behind, especially here in New Zealand, where I now live and where
Dyslexia wasn’t officially recognised until 2002!
Unfortunately support is inconsistent. Some schools get it. Others don’t, but even if they get it the budget for assistance is non existent or miniscule and too many kids are still falling through the cracks.
This is when everything I’d learned suddenly had a whole new purpose. I wasn’t just navigating this as a dyslexic adult, I was watching my daughter go through the same system, facing the same gaps. What worked for me
didn’t always work for her. I had to start from scratch again, rethink everything, adapt, and get creative.
When a friend asked me about my experiences and how she could help her child, it hit me, why are we all doing this the hard way?
Parents shouldn’t have to spend years figuring it out, messing it up, or watching their kid struggle while they search for answers!
So now, I’m sharing everything I’ve learned so you don’t have to start at square one.
So you don’t lose years in trial and error.
So you can skip the “what the hell do I do now?” phase, and get straight to supporting your child in a way that actually works!
That’s why I created my workshops, for parents who are ready to stop second guessing themselves and start showing up with clarity, confidence, and the tools to truly support their child. These are practical, empowering sessions built around real-life strategies that work.
It’s not about fixing your child, it’s about understanding how their brain actually works, and helping them unlock their strengths.
Alongside my workshops, I’ve written books that share my story, my tools, and the mindset shifts that helped me turn setbacks into superpowers. My mission is to help parents and kids reframe dyslexia, not as a disability, but as a different kind of brilliance.
Because brilliance often begins where others see limits.
If you’re ready to challenge the old story, support your child in a way that actually works, and build a future where they don’t just survive, but thrive then you’re in the right place!
